In today’s society, the recycling of waste cables has become an important issue for environmental protection and resource recycling. The metal copper or aluminum in cables has recycling value, and there are many recycling methods, but if not handled properly it will cause environmental pollution again. In this article, we will introduce an environmentally friendly cable recycling method and discuss cable shredder to recover metal copper.

Cables usually consist of outer insulation, inner insulation and metal wires, and most of the insulation material is plastic. Cable shredder can completely separate the insulation layer and metal, and the recycling process includes primary crushing, magnetic separation, secondary crushing, gravity sorting, packaging, etc., in which valuable metal materials such as copper and aluminum can be recycled and reused after separation and classification.

Process 1: Cable shredder for primary shredding
Firstly, the waste cable is put into the shredder for the first shredding, the cable shredder can shred the material up to 15mm, this process can be realized by the single shaft shredder such as V series or BH series.
The V series single shaft shredders are low to medium speed, high torque shredding machines with a wide range of applications. The shredded material can be sold as raw material or processed by other equipment to produce other products.
BH series single shaft shredder is a large-scale shredding equipment, suitable for high production of large-scale shredding and crushing of various materials. The machine is equipped with large-capacity hopper, crushing bin and high-efficiency hydraulic pushing device to maximize the delivery of its superiority in shredding high hardness, large size materials.

Process 2: Magnetic separation and secondary crushing
After the waste cable is shredded by the single-shaft shredder at the first level, it enters the magnetic separator through the conveyor belt to remove the iron in the material, and then sends it to the crusher for the second level crushing. This process is generally handled by GC series crusher. The GC Series Crushers are ideally suited for processing a wide range of materials including plastics, rubber, fibers, copper cables and light non-ferrous metals.
The use of high speed rotating props for cutting, combined with smaller aperture screens, can shred cables into small particles of around 3mm.

Process 3: Gravity sorting
After two shredding processes, the waste cables have been completely crushed and the metal copper and plastic have been completely separated, but they are still mixed together. In order to separate these two different materials, next, they will be air-fed to the gravity sorter. Due to the different weights of the copper and the plastic, the wind sorting allows them to be completely separated and then collected and packaged separately. The final separated copper has a purity of up to 99.5%. The recovered copper can be reused to make new cables or other products. This whole process of waste cable recycling is environmentally friendly and efficient.
